What is Molded Fiber?

Molded fiber, or molded pulp is a sustainable plant-based packaging material made from natural fibers like bamboo and bagasse (sugarcane byproduct).

The molded fiber has the following advantages:

Locally

sourced

Energy

efficient

Fast-growing

Renewable

Compostable

Recycles with paper

Pollution-free waste products

Production

The production procedure of the molded fiber is as follows:

• Sheeted paper fiber is mixed with water and converted to a paper pulp slurry

• The paper pulp slurry is drawn over a screened tool to create the basic form of the molded part

• Intense pressure and heat is then applied to finish the part and dry the part of any remaining water

Sustainability

Molded fiber is the ecological material from harvest to production. It is fully recyclable. Molded fiber is the best choice for the planet:

• Biodegradable

• Low carbon footprint

• Energy efficient production

Long lifecycle

Molded fiber has a much lower carbon footprint than other traditional packaging materials, especially plastic.

Here are the environmental benefits of the molded fiber packaging lifecycle:
